I was enthralled by the unusual layout of the stairs and the doors that lead to other parts of the building that the public couldn’t access. Apparently the interior has had a lot of reorganising done to it over the years. Well worth a visit before the festival finishes.

The Digital Abode blog is now up and running. This site will be used primarily for all things digital in Brighton but also for collecting and sharing information about Digital inclusion.

Stories of the world.

Stories of the World is one of the major projects at the heard of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. It is being led by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) in partnership with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Through Stories of the World people of all backgrounds, from every part o the UK, will become ‘curators’ of the collections and objects held in museums, libraries and archives. They’ll have the chance to come up with new ways of representing material, then put on their own series of exhibitions.

A few interesting facts about the games.

- We expect 205 nations to take part in 300 events at the Olympic Games in 2012. 147 nations will take part in the Paralympic Games.

- London will be the Games of the 30th (XXX) Olympiad.

- 900 medals will be handed out during the Olympic Games in 2012.

- A total of 14,700 athletes will compete at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

- The Olympic symbol (the Olympic rings) expresses the activity of the Olympic Movement and represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic  games.

The Brighton and Hove Adult Learning Festival has many events happening throughout the city from now until the end of March. The Festival offers people a chance to learn in new and unusual ways. The aim is to promote and celebrate learning activities across Brighton & Hove which reflect the dynamic city in which we live.

The Spring Forward is a full day of events on the 20th of March that will showcase and celebrate learning in three main place : Jubilee Square; The Brighton Bandstand; and along the Seafront between the Piers. Looking at the history of the local area with a view to informing participants about the community in which they live and work, and provide opportunities for fun tasters and future learning opportunities.

The collective formed by some of the Brighton DMA MA students The Digital Table will have a pitch in Jubilee Sq showing some interactive pieces of digital art from their last block of work. The digital Table will also have 3 more pieces of work inside the Jubilee library on the day.

The Living Light is a building facade of the future that displays air quality and  public interest in the environment. It is a permanent outdoor pavilion in Peace Park, across from World Cup Stadium in Seoul, Korea.This dynamic facade responds to real-time air quality data and to public interest in the environment. It also glows according to data and public interest.  The panels of the structure are made up of the districts of Seoul. It can request and receive information via the web and each night, the neighborhoods light up  if their air quality is better today than last year. Every 15 minutes, the map  goes dark and then the neighborhoods light up in order of best current air quality to worst. You can alo text your area code to the living light and it will flash to show it has received your text and you will then receive a text back about the quality of air in your area. This structure also provides a canopy for the public, a focal point in the park and a source of useful information for the Seoul inhabitants.

The update with the digital drop-in center and digital art gallery is that The Lighthouse have very generously given us free computers for the project. We are still in need of funding and a space but I have a meeting with Julie Watson who is the Adult Learning Group Project Officer for Brighton and Hove on Monday and maybe she will have some ideas. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know and I will out it to the group.

Troika was commissioned by the Artwise Curators to create a digital signature piece for the entrance of the new British Airwaysluxury lounges in Heathrow Terminal 5. The surface is covered in about 5,000 small electromechanical indicator that flip between black and silver. The designer used the metaphor of the cloud to represent flight and in contrast to the craziness of airports to the peace and beauty we experience up in the clouds.
